COUNCILLOR Mohammed Farooq (June 7th) has today resigned his role as president of North West Cambridgeshire Conservative Association (NWCCA), a position he has held since June 2022. In response to inquiries from media and members, Association chairman Graham Bull issued the following statement:
'We are grieved and deeply disappointed to lose Farooq as our president. He has been a valuable member of our Association for some years and his experience and wise counsel will be much missed.
'However, president is an honorary role and while we are sad to lose him, his departure will have no effect on the day-to-day running of the Association. We remain strong and focused and will consider the appointment of a new president at our next officers' meeting.
'Our priority, as always, is to support our members, our MP and all our councillors right across the constituency, working with other Associations as appropriate.'
Farooq's reasons for resigning as president are related to an unfolding situation within the Peterborough City Council Conservative group. "To avoid any embarrassment to the Association I felt the best option at this stage was to step away," he said.
