FROM May 2023 those wishing to vote in person, plus anyone acting as a proxy on behalf of another individual, will be required to produce an accepted form of photographic identification in order to cast their vote. The following original documents are acceptable:
- Passport issued by the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, British Overseas Territory, European Economic Area (EEA) state or a Commonwealth country
- Photo driver's licence (full or provisional) issued by the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man or EEA state
- EEA photographic ID card
- UK biometric residence permit
- Identify card bearing Proof of Age Standards Scheme hologram (PASS card)
- Blue Badge
- Oyster 60+ card
- Concessionary UK Government or local authority travel pass
If you don't have one of these original documents, you may apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate specifically for the purpose of casting your vote. The deadline for making such an application is April 25th to enable you to vote in this year's May elections. To find out more or make an application, please go to the gov.uk website
Postal voters are not affected by this change. To apply for a postal vote please see the Electoral Commission website.
The most important point is to ensure you are in fact registered to vote - this is especially important for those who may have re-located recently and moved to a new town.
