WARBOYS Speedwatch is attracting more interest thanks to a dedicated Facebook page set up by local district councillor Mike Haines. Mike also arranged for a live Speedwatch session to be featured on Huntingdon Community Radio and invited two high-profile supporters to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding, especially on rural roads.
MP Shailesh Vara and Police and Crime Commissioner Darryl Preston made site visits to local hotspots, including the clock tower junction in Warboys where an accident took place just hours later.
Community Speedwatch enables members of the public to monitor and help reduce speeding to make rural roads safer, an example of anti-social behaviour that can have serious consequences. As a parish councillor, Mike helped oversee the installation of road safety measures in Pidley as well as forming the Pidley Lorry Group to explore ways of reducing the numbers of heavy commercial vehicles using village roads as a 'short cut'.
"Speeding is an example of anti-social behaviour that can have serious consequences," said Mike. "We are grateful to the villagers and volunteers who man Speedwatch sessions, enabling us to add more locations where possible... most recently on Ramsey Road. Big thanks to them all."
