A MAJOR project to develop 120m of boat moorings at High Lode in Ramsey has been welcomed by district councillor Steve Corney, who is also the town's mayor. Steve worked behind the scenes to help finalise a partnership agreement between Accent Housing Ltd, Ramsey Town Council and the Middle Level Commissioners.
The scheme will be funded entirely by the housing association as part of its byelaw commitment relating to their building of new homes on Stocking Fen Road. The good news comes after several failed attempts to obtain funding stretching back more than 15 years.
Steve told us: "This development, with associated facilities in the basin area, will encourage tourism and boost the local economy in many ways. It's a positive step with great potential for the town. Credit goes to the three partners for coming together and working through the issues presented to make the project happen."
The project is being managed, and will be run by the Middle Level Commissioners as part of a wider overall plan to improve navigation for all users including river cruisers and narrowboats. Work is expected to be completed by late spring/early summer... see you there!
