Cambridgeshire Young Conservatives… face of the future
TWO members of our constituency association have taken a leading role in setting up a county-wide branch of Young Conservatives. Max Fenton-Stone from Somersham, and Adam Bream (pictured right) from Peterborough, invite you to join them!
Cambridgeshire Young Conservatives (CYC) has been formally registered by Conservative central office, with South Cambridgeshire Conservative Association acting as the ‘parent’ branch. Day-to-day running of CYC will be managed by their own committee, chaired by Max.
The move to create a Cambridgeshire group brought together Max, making an informal approach to each Association chairman, with North West Cambridgeshire YC co-ordinator Adam who set up our local group last summer.
While COVID restrictions are still limiting physical gatherings, guidelines have been eased ahead of the biggest set of local authority elections ever to take place in this country, on May 6th. Several Young Conservatives (aged under 26) are standing as a prospective candidate for city and county council seats with others volunteering their time to support candidates campaigning across the county.
“This is a unique set of circumstances where last year’s cancelled elections coincide with this year’s county council election, combined authority mayoral election and Police and Crime Commissioner election,” said Adam. “It is a fantastic opportunity for younger people to get involved, either behind the scenes, via social media or helping with delivery of leaflets. They can even shadow a candidate or councillor for first-hand experience of being out on the stump.”
Politics graduate, Adam, feels strongly that young people are the leaders of tomorrow and should not be discouraged from getting involved because they fear not being heard. “The best way to influence decisions is at grass roots level, sharing your views and ideas and working with others to support change,” he said. Membership costs just £5 a year if you are under-26 and you can hear more from Adam in his video on the Association Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/NWCambsConservatives

The formation of this new group was welcomed by NWCCA chairman Gavin Elsey: "This will surely help inspire a new generation of Conservatives, the councillors and MPs of the future. The enthusiasm of Adam and Max, and other like-minded young people, will keep our values alive while adapting to an ever-changing world.”
