Shailesh Vara, Member of Parliament for North West Cambridgeshire, officially opened the 49th Ellington Village Gala and Flower Festival last Saturday.
The Gala was a great success with a good turn out from Ellington and surrounding villages. The event included a performance from Spaldwick Primary School’s drumming group and Maypole Dancers as well as a dance display from the Buckden Dancers, culminating with a show from the local group, The Vees. In addition to the festivities, the Ellington Time Capsule was sealed ready for its burial. The capsule will be opened in 50 years time to mark the 100th Ellington Village Gala.
The money raised from the event is donated to local groups, including the Church and Playing Field Association.
Following the event, Mr Vara said:
“This was a very successful event with a range of entertainment, providing enjoyment for all those who attended. I enjoyed playing the drums with the school children who were clearly experts and the Time Capsule will certainly make interesting reading in 50 years time. Congratulations to all those involved who put in a tremendous amount of hard work and made the event such a success.”
