TODAY (September 20th 2023) is a significant moment for North West Cambridgeshire constituency which sees four wards move to the neighbouring Huntingdon constituency. Due to the recent Parliamentary boundary changes, not only do we say farewell to ward members, we also lose the district councillors representing those four wards, all of whom have now been transferred to Huntingdon.
They are Simon Bywater and Ross Martin (Sawtry), Adela Costello and Charlotte Lowe (Warboys), Steve Criswell (Somersham), Jon Neish and Paul Hodgson-Jones representing Holywell-cum-Needingworth. Simon and Adela retain links with our new-look North West Cambridgeshire Conservative Association (NWCCA) through their role as county councillors.
At the same time, we welcome new members from Peterborough, due to two small pieces of geography that have been incorporated into North West Cambridgeshire, part of the village of Peakirk (Glinton and Castor ward) and one part of Fletton and Woodston ward. Both these areas were previously split across constituencies.
Steve Corney, incoming chairman of the newly-established NWCCA, told us: "We thank those members and councillors who have been transferred to Huntingdon Constituency Conservative Association (HCCA), for their support and friendship over many years which we hope will act as a bridge between us. At the same time we welcome our new members and look forward to seeing you at one of our future events. As we prepare for a General Election year we aim to work together to ensure all three Parliamentary seats are retained."
NOTE: These changes are the culmination of a nationwide review by the Boundary Commission of England, which has seen boundaries partially re-drawn in all seven constituencies in Cambridgeshire and one new constituency created. For further information please refer to stories on our news page.
