LOCAL ward councillors Kevin Gulson and Eric Butler joined MP Shailesh Vara on a visit to RB Organic in Yaxley, the largest producer of organic vegetable crops in the country. A division of Burgess Farms and Produce World, the company is one of many facing the challenge of balancing rising energy and fuel costs while striving to keep prices low as the cost of living rises, impacting families everywhere..
Chairman William Burgess (second right) and CEO James Barker explained the challenges to Shailesh, at the same time reminding him of the dedication and commitment of their staff who continued to work throughout the pandemic ensuring fresh food supplies were not disrupted. Additional costs incurred by the company during this time had not been passed on to the consumer.
Afterwards, Cllr Gulson told us: "RB Organic is a major employer in the Fens and this was a valuable opportunity to show our MP the scale of this processing and distribution operation, and its critical role in the wider supply chain supporting shops and supermarkets."
