CHURCHES across Cambridgeshire opened their doors to welcome cyclists and walkers for the annual Ride and Stride Day, a major fundraising event for the Historic Churches Trust. This year saw the 40th anniversary of the Trust which provides grants for repair and restoration of many of our local churches.
Funds raised through sponsorship of this fun event, as participants walk or cycle from one church to another, are critical for the Trust to continue its work. MP Shailesh Vara called in to All Saints Church in the village of Hamerton where he met volunteers on hand to greet visitors. Among them was Kate Tojeiro, who told us: "Our beautiful church, like so many of these incredible buildings, is an amazing community space and needs funds and support to maintain it for future generations. It was a joy to see so many people willing to give of their time to help."
Shailesh added: "Every church has its own unique history and story, and this event enables people to explore beyond their own church while raising much-needed funds to help preserve these places of worship."
