As you know, last year’s local authority elections were cancelled across the country due to the COVID pandemic. It is now expected elections will take place this year on May 6th.
Peterborough City Council
Here in North West Cambridgeshire elections will take place in 10 wards, including seven prospective new candidates. They are as follows: Oliver Sainsbury (Fletton and Stanground), Andrew Willey (Fletton and Woodston), Saqib Farooq (Glinton and Castor), Lindsay Sharp (Hampton Vale), Nicolle Moyo (Hargate and Hempsted), Michael Samways (Orton Waterville) and Gavin Elsey (Wittering).
In addition, four candidates are seeking to be re-elected having given dedicated service for many years: David Over (Barnack), Andy Coles (Fletton and Woodston), Graham Casey (Orton Longueville) and Chris Harper (Stanground South).
Cambridgeshire County Council
Elections are also taking place for the county council for which five divisions fall into North West Cambridgeshire constituency. Standing for the first time is Steve Corney (Warboys and The Stukeleys) wishing to continue the good work achieved by retiring councillor Terry Rogers.
The four candidates seeking re-election are Steve Criswell (Somersham and Earith), Simon Bywater (Sawtry and Stilton), Mac McGuire (Norman Cross) and Adela Costello (Ramsey and Bury).
“All our candidates have been working pro-actively throughout the past year to support their communities during the pandemic, as well as resolving day-to-day ward issues,” said Cllr Mohammed Farooq, deputy chairman of North West Cambridgeshire Conservative Association. “While doorstep discussions, walking surgeries, leafletting and other traditional campaigning activities have not been possible we are finding new ways to keep in touch including growing use of video calls and social media. Many of our supporters have offered to help once lockdown restrictions are eased and we look forward to seeing you again very soon.”
