Robin Carter, the Conservative Party candidate in the Earith Ward by-election, won the seat last Thursday with a majority of 87 votes.
In what was a vigourous campaign fought by both the Conservatives and UKIP, Robin polled 524 votes to Alan Fitzgerald's (UKIP) 437. Labour, Liberal Democrats and the Official Monster Raving Loony Party all fielded candidates but there was quite some distance between their results and that of second placed UKIP.
At a speech following the declaration of the result, Robin made it clear that he had enjoyed the campaign and that he would work to the best of his abilities for local residents; regardless of how they voted.
