HARVESTING rainwater for domestic use can play a vital role in helping conserve water, bringing financial and ecological benefits for a more sustainable future. This was the message to Shailesh Vara MP who was invited to view a demonstration of the innovative harvesting technology being spearheaded by a firm in Orton Southgate.
Senior executives welcomed Shailesh to RainWater Harvesting Ltd to explain how their system can assist householders to use water differently, at the same time helping to prevent flooding. Established in 2008, the firm designs, manufactures and supplies the necessary equipment and is said to be the leading suppler to the domestic rainwater harvesting market.
The process involves the collection of rainwater from the roof, and storage in underground tanks for use in a variety of ways indoors and outside.. .flushing the toilet, washing machine, irrigating the garden, washing the car and much more. "As well as relieving stress on mains water supply, the system can also help prevent both localised and downstream flooding," said director Jae Lester.
Afterwards Shailesh described the valuable contribution that rainwater harvesting can make to society's increasing demands for water. "This technology offers real benefits to householders, reducing the need for potable water and thereby helping conserve natural resources."
